Originally published in a small run in 2009, this book chronicles "the story of a heartbreak in 30 days".

Like a series of psychic photographs, these poems (and some prose) written seemingly haphazardly over the month following the breakup of an engagement, are knit together by feeling and not always overtly by subject. Interspersed with poems and prose processing the breakup are several poems on varied subjects – a poem to the writer’s sister relating to a challenge she is also facing, a poem about a time she was a witness to an apparent attempted suicide, a poem about her work in a coffee shop, and a poem processing the advances of a stranger at the bus stop. The book’s snapshots are of a life struggling to right itself after being upended by love and loss, mixed in with every day occurrences and family struggles. Here “little miracles” like “a ride home from the grocery store” and the kindnesses of friends and strangers are tangible reflections to her of the God she still believes loves her, even as she feels this God is taking her world apart. Behind and beside the words on the pages, there lies a dreamscape of illustrations drawn, photographed, painted and collaged by numerous artists and photographers, including the author herself.

At the book’s end, the reader is left with the feeling that despite the pain involved in the breakup itself, the outcomes of the relationship – what was learned, the memories both have, and the “two separate roads” they now embark on (as stated in the first poem of the book) – are worthwhile outcomes, and the writer’s hope for goodness for both their futures is apparent. Is it realistic for any breakup of a serious relationship to be fully processed within 30 days, especially considering the weight this relationship seems to have held in the author’s life? Maybe not. Hence, there is a sequel.
